Enter the Balinese New Year in deep reverence, ritual, and with your own handmade offerings.

The days surrounding Nyepi hold powerful transitional energy. While Nyepi itself is a day of complete silence and inward reflection, Ngrupuk - the day before - marks the cleansing of the seen and unseen worlds. It is a time to release, purify, and restore balance before the island enters stillness.

Ngrupuk is traditionally a day of rituals called bhuta yadñya, known also as the Ogoh-Ogoh parade, and energetic clearing - preparing the land, the temples, and the inner landscape for the great pause of Nyepi.

Whether you are visiting Bali for the first time or feel deeply connected to this land, this special immersion invites you beyond the surface and into the depth of Balinese spirituality 🌺

We begin by exploring the essence of Balinese philosophy and the meaning of Nyepi as a return to harmony - and Ngrupuk as the conscious act of clearing what no longer belongs. You’ll be introduced to the philosophy of offerings as tools for balance between the human, natural, and unseen realms.

From there, you will be guided through a hands-on experience of creating your own canang - the small, intricate offerings made from palm leaves, flowers, and intention. 🌼

As you craft your offering, you’ll learn the symbolism behind each element and the ancient wisdom embedded in this thousand-year-old tradition. Though deeply rooted in Balinese spirituality, the teachings are truly universal, and we will discover them as we draw parallels to other ancient wisdom cultures, such as Native American, Celtic and Andean wisdom ✨

Our journey continues with a visit to the village temple and to the holy spring, where we will make our offerings and receive the purifying waters. This ritual mirrors the wider cleansing that takes place on Ngrupuk: washing away stagnation and preparing body, mind, and spirit for the silence of Nyepi.

You will return home with your handmade offerings, sacred spring water, and practical understanding of earth-based rituals you can integrate into your own life.

We close by sharing a nourishing Balinese meal in the family compound - grounding the experience and allowing space for reflection and questions.🌿

You are welcome to stay in the village and continue exploring, and watch the Ogoh-Ogoh parade later in the evening with us!

Facilitators

This workshop is held by Purnama and her Balinese family - her aunt Ayu Parniasih, her uncle Ngurah Pecus, and their daughter Cahaya Wedha.

Purnama has been guiding cultural immersions in Bali for the past 7 years, continually refining her offerings with each experience. Alongside this, she has deeply immersed herself in indigenous wisdom traditions from around the world, participating in countless ceremonies with elders and wisdom keepers. These experiences have enriched her work, allowing her to weave together universal threads of remembrance and reverence. She also shares her love for philosophy by teaching Vedic wisdom in Yoga Teacher Trainings across the globe.

Ayu Parniasih was born and raised in Ubud before marrying into Purnama’s family and settling in their ancestral village of Bedulu. She and her daughter, Cahaya Wedha, are both traditional Balinese temple dancers, carrying forward the sacred lineage of movement and devotion. Since 2020, they have been collaborating with Purnama in her cultural offerings, sharing the beauty and depth of Balinese tradition, and inspiring with their deep devotion.

What other people have said:

"I have been coming to Bali for 15 years, and have tried many times to learn more about the offerings. Your offerings class gave me what I was seeking ... and so much more. I would happily attend again.

It should almost be mandatory for not just visitors to Bali, but expats also, to attend your very informative and enjoyable offerings session.

Thank you so much for enlightening me in something I have been very curious about for a long time, but, until now, hadn't yet found the right person/place to provide the information!"

"My dear sister Purnama hosts the most incredible Balinese Culture classes in Bali. I highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting to deepen their relationship with the land and the culture. She is also an amazing artist and space holder.

I have been going to many ceremonies and just did what I was told to do, but now there is this deep sense of connection. I'm so grateful for Purnama to share her gifts!"

Nhi Nhi Le, Meditation Teacher and Retreat Facilitator

"I’m so glad I heard my intuition and went to the workshop that day. A stronger force helped me to be there and now I understand why. Not to sound too woo-woo but seriously.. ever since I did the workshop, started doing my daily offerings, going to the temples with the offerings, it feels like a 'portal' opened in my life. I understood why Bali called me 6 years ago and many other life changing things.

I had one of the most beautiful important weeks of my entire life and I believe is due to everything you and your family shared with us. I’ll make sure to always keep an extra prayer for you and your family. 🙏🏼 It was a really unique and special experience that I wish everyone could have to learn how honor everything that Bali gives freely.
